My challenge is to increase psychological safety, especially in the staff rooms of Japanese schools, and to motivate each teacher to take on innovative challenges on his or her own. I have worked in several schools in the past. In the staff rooms of vibrant schools, teachers communicate casually over a drink, respect each other, and work as a team on a daily basis, drawing on the strengths of each teacher. In our school, however, each teacher is focused solely on completing the task at hand, and there is no atmosphere of operational efficiency or collaboration with other teachers. I searched the Web to see if my school was the only one in such a situation. I have actually seen many of my colleagues who had been working hard and motivated take a leave of absence or resign from their positions due to mental illness after 2022. I have actually seen many times after 2022, colleagues who were motivated in their work take a leave of absence or resign due to mental illness. I believe that maintaining psychological safety in school staff offices will lead to a change in work styles and motivate each teacher to take on more innovative challenges. In addition, when students see teachers taking on challenges, they will be inspired to take on challenges themselves. Even if they fail in this challenge, they can always learn something from it, but only if they try.
